How It All Began…

I wanted something more! I was looking for something different. The internet drama, the Shaderoom, & man bashing was not amusing me in the slightest. I couldn’t find what I was looking for so I CREATED IT!

2020 was a year of the unknown for a lot of people especially ME! I was still in college, working two jobs, and not really fulfilled outside of that. FMR was just a crazy idea that became much more than I imagined. No business partners, no friends to help put it together, & no money to just throw to the wind & hope it worked.

In May of 2020 I launched my Facebook page, Fine Melanin Roses, & named my first Queen of the Week (Kia Livingston) & my first Business of the Week (Final Faze by Arrion Floyd). My graphics were 🤭, my confidence was 😬, and my stress was 😭. I didn't have a aesthetic, a website, or anything to resemble a brand. Over the next few weeks and months all the pieces started to come together.

With year one under my belt I happily patted myself on the back for all the work I DID. I created over 100 blog posts, crowned over 35 Queens, spotlighted over 40 businesses, & grew to reach more people through Facebook, my OWN website, Instagram and even Pinterest. I really couldn’t be happier. Until I wasn’t.

After September 2021, I took a step back from FMR. Life had taken over the majority of my time with work, school, & trying to keep my head on straight. I lost my desire to create content, graphics, & I was discouraged that I wasn’t further as the businesses I cheered for all day every day were making MAJOR moves. I took the rest of the year off & decided to start strong in 2022. But I didn’t have a plan 😑.

Now that I’m writing this I’m actually extremely proud of myself and my constant desire to KEEP GOING, start over, try again, and figure it out no matter how many obstacles I put in front of myself. Here’s to a year of growth, perseverance, & faith 💋
