Thief in the Night: Depression

“I was that person that thought I had to have it all figured out start to finish. I needed to see it through. I had to make sure it got done. I had to have all the answers! But no one asked me to. I gave myself that level of stress. It felt so good to release that mindset and give everything I couldn’t bare to God.”

Have you ever been stuck somewhere & wondered how you’re going to get home? Have you been in a relationship that you felt powerless to leave from? Have you failed more than you find “acceptable” and questioned what was wrong with YOU? I could go on and on and on about self doubt, fear, & depression. We all experience it differently. I’ve never personally dealt with depression to the extent of most but I’ve dealt with a lot of self doubt, moments of feeling uncomfortable in my own feelings, and unable to get myself out of the hole I was falling into every day. It’s really hard to get away from your own mind. It kills all the good intentions and thoughts you have. That’s when God comes in like Superman and destroys all those things. When you honestly pray and ask God to remove those thoughts and feelings, HE WILL DO IT! He’s bringing the big guns and showing out too. It might take a month of self care, a week of therapy, or a life of overwhelming prayer and trust! Just smile in the mirror one time. It might feel awkward at first. You might feel a little silly but make an effort to fight depression every day & God will make sure you come out grinning ear to ear and victorious!

Quick Question. How many people are depending on you? How many people need you to make something happen to benefit them? How many people want 1,384 things from you but you’ve only got time for the 3 things you need to do? When’s the last time you gave it to someone else to deal with? Did you even consider that maybe God has more than enough time to take your burdens, handle them, hold you up, and carry you through? YES, HE CAN DO IT ALL! I was that person that thought I had to have it all figured out start to finish. I needed to see it through. I had to make sure it got done. I had to have all the answers! But no one asked me to. I gave myself that level of stress. It felt so good to release that mindset and give everything I couldn’t bare to God. I made sure to keep my mental health in check and prioritize my “to do list”. I started to pray that God would help me because at that point I didn’t have the answers, I didn’t have the time to figure it out, & I was mentally killing myself by blaming myself for NOT having it all together. You may think that when you miss a detail or give it to him to handle that you’re falling off or you’re slipping because you’re supposed to have it all figured out! You could be wearing the highest pair of heels & God is STILL going to make sure you don’t fall! You’re automatically going to win every time God touches your situation!

You’re going to be tested. You’re going to be tempted to give up. You’re going to doubt if it’s even possible. You’re going to want to say “I’m done.” Don’t let those thoughts win. There’s so many times in my life where I thought “I don’t know how this is going to end” or “How am I going to make it?” That’s completely normal. It’s human nature. We sometimes see God as our last resort when really he should be our option! Life will pressure you in so many ways especially these days! When you’ve got God on your side, all that pressure will make you a DIAMOND! Sometimes just asking God to help is going to open the door to healing, peace, perseverance, & a change in your life!
